I learned this morning that a dear colleague who was making an attempt to summit Mt. Everest died in an avalanche caused by today's earthquake. Dan Fredinburg loved Nepal and its people, returning repeatedly to this special place and dedicating his summit attempts to honorable service work and organizations.
